April 4, 2026, By Gene Kendall
We held our April club meeting in the club house at the John Nichol’s Field.
President Bill Barlow started the meeting precisely on time at 10:00 AM. We said the Pledge of Allegiance.
We have a new member, Michael Dietz. Michael flies a Boeing 737 for Alaska Airlines. He spends the summer in Alaska and winters in San Diego. Michael brought his daughter Audrey Dietz with him.
Mike Sandlin said we have 28 paid members to date. Al Sayder has been working on his plane. Ivan Rubio has been flying is powered paraglider. Larry Schultz finished rebuilding the landing gear on his Kit Fox. It’s an improved landing gear with a slightly wider stance.
Mathieu Betholino was traveling and not at meeting. By email he said he received the propeller for his Sonex airplane and is awaiting a crush plate. The bad news is Sonex has declared bankruptcy and he will not be able to get anymore parts from the company. Mathieu says he has most of the parts that he needs.
Glenn Frehafer had an incident the last week of March with his Quicksilver GT 400. After a hard landing at the field he ran off the end of the runway and damaged his plane. Glenn was not hurt and walked away. He reported the incident to the NTSB.
Gene Kendall demonstrated the newly finished club’s firefighting trailer. The trailer is located next to hanger six and adjacent to the tall fiscus tree. The firefighting trailer as 275-gallon water tank with a gasoline powered water pump and 200 feet of water hose on a spool. The trailer can be towed by any truck that has a 2” square receiver. The fire trailer has a gas can, oil, some tools, a filtered facemask and a universal ball hitch for any 2” square receiver. The water volume is that of a normal house garden hose but will shoot water about 30 feet through the air.
Ed Radtke won $30 in the raffle with $30 going to the club.
16 people attended our meeting. The meeting ended at 11 AM.
